Gap Incorporated, You Are On My List
Recently, I've started to feel like I am too old to shop at Old Navy, which is sad because they have typically been an excellent source of basics like tees and pants (I'm wearing a pair of ON khaki chinos and a long ribbed tank top right now, in fact, with a shirt from J. Crew). But any more, when I go into the stores (seldom) or look at the web site (more often) I feel old and out of place, although I was having a difficult time putting my finger on exactly why that was so.
Until today, when Sheri sent me the link to this:

Terry cloth romper, $19.50. Available in four colors, although I don't know why it matters.
"I just want to know who," Sheri asked, "I mean WHO aside from a 7-year old girl, can wear this?" Answer: NO ONE. And I'm even hesitant about okaying it for a seven-year-old.
Between the closing of Fourth & Towne and this monstrosity, I am really not feeling any extra love for the Gap these days. NONE. At all.
Which is sad, because these chinos I'm wearing are the bomb.

thank you for getting this horror out there for the world to acknowledge. thank you.
Yikes! I had a peachy orange version of that same jumpsuit when I was 6. 'Course it was 1978 and everyone under the age of 10 had one. There must be someone my age designing for the Gap.
I'm with you - this shouldn't be on the shelves.
I totally owned that in 1975.
But now I think I need a drink.
(Am wearing Gap chino capris at the moment, of which I have 2 pairs, but they are from OLD SCHOOL Gap because their new cuts do not fit those of us with asses. So. I was already starting to hate them. Power, sistah!)
I am with you. I cant even go into Gap Kids and find anything decent for the kids anymore. This use to be my go to store, now I dont even bother.
OK, I saw those and thought that the last time I saw them was on Chrissy when she moved in with Jack and what's her face on Three's Company. And even they looked like crap. Then again, we will probably see Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton in some soon.
I have given up on the Gap as well. Sad. Old Navy is still hanging in there, but barely. I may just have to give up and go to Ann Taylor permanently.
My 6 year old daughter would NOT be allowed to wear that romper at her public school -- she must have sleeves!
Reminds me of the line from last week's Office when Angela (who is so petite she must buy children's clothes) complains that the clothes at GapKids are too flashy. :)
I can't be too mad at Gap, Inc. however because I am such a loyal Banana buyer. If only their clothes had Old Navy prices....
I gave up on ON some time ago, when they decided to cut back on their selection of normal-length t-shirts and pants with "just below" waistlines. T-shirts are either too long or cropped; pants are all ultra-low - clearly I'm not their target demographic. And I'm okay with that - except I'd like to find a go-to store for reasonably priced basics.
I swear I owned that in yellow when I was 6! I would NEVER allow my 12 year old to wear that, let alone an adult.
And adore the reference to Chrissy wearing that on Three's Company, that someone made!
True story: When I was a little girl my parents took me to the state fair where I decided I HAD TO SEE THE HEADLESS WOMAN. Seriously. A chic with no head? Totally worth two bucks. Except really it was a woman with her head inside some electronic looking contraption, just sitting in a chair doing nothing.
Oh, and she was wearing an outfit just like that except it was white.
Jeana, just out of curiosity, what state was that?
I'm scared she's going to say Oklahoma.
Close. Texas.
I agree on the Old Navy. Once a go-to place for workplace basics for those of us in school, now it's a cavern of depressing macrame bags and boring ironic tshirts. At least their pajama bottoms are still reasonable!
And there's something about living in Western MA that means Target can't be bothered to carry anything cute.
I can't wait to get a job and be able to afford decent clothes again. I still wear my j.crew chinos from 7 years ago, but the Old Navy brown pants from last year have already been regulated to the back of the closet. :(
